Real momentum in a simulated environment.
Low-float momentum names with a one-minute chart that builds print by print, a full Level 2 book and a tape that speeds up and slows down with the stock. Price only moves when someone takes the resting size, so the book, the tape and the chart always agree — and every trade gets graded.

How to read it
- The inside market. Best bid and best ask — 4.67 × 4.72, five cents wide.
- A seller parked at $5.00. 119 lots on a whole dollar. Price can't pass until it's eaten, so watch that number, not the chart.
- Your share size, set right on the ladder.
- Red prints hit the bid. Sellers crossing to get out. Green would mean buyers lifting the ask.
- Grey traded inside the spread, at a sub-penny price.
Anatomy of a trade
What the app is teaching you to see
One flat-top break at a whole dollar, in five steps. An illustration, not a real session — but every step is something the engine really does.
The base
Controls and actions
Start the tape, change speed, reset or skip. Every action is on a hotkey too, and you choose up to four that sit on screen as buttons.
Scored, not just simulated
Every trade is graded out of 100 across pattern, volume, reaction, sizing and outcome, then written up. Your adds get graded on their own — adding to a winner scores high, averaging down doesn't.
One account. Real costs. No reset button.
Turn on Hardcore and the whole app goes red. You get $1,000 that only trading can change, one stock at a time, and no skipping the name you were dealt.
- Commission and routing on every fill, both ways
- Locates and borrow on shorts, real margin, forced buy-ins
- It ends under $100, or 80% down from your best balance
- Its own record and twelve achievements of its own
The way through it

Learn the shapes first
Reading the tape only helps once you know what you're waiting for. Learn holds the reference for both halves of that — the candles, and the setups they build into.
Ten patterns, drawn out
Each drawn in candles, tagged bullish or bearish, and explained in a couple of sentences rather than textbook wording. Alongside: twelve candles, four cards on reading the book, and pages on shorting, stock selection and psychology. See everything in Learn.
Same app on your phone
The whole thing reflows to a phone, and you can put the actions you use under your thumbs, so the reps don't have to wait for you to be at the desk.

Features
Everything below is in the full L2TS, which runs in one browser tab — no install, no market data bill. The tags show how it lines up with the free L2TS Lite: In Lite is included there, Elite is what the Lite comparison lists as Elite-only, and anything untagged isn't listed there as Elite-only.
Under the hood
Price only moves when liquidity gets taken
This is the part that makes the rest of it work. Price in L2TS is not a random walk. There is resting size at the inside bid and offer; a buy print eats into the offer, a sell print eats into the bid, and price only ticks once that resting size is gone. When flow is two-sided the book refills as fast as it's consumed and price sits still, exactly like a quiet tape. When one side takes over, the refill can't keep up, levels break and price runs.
Every print, candle, volume bar and Level 2 quote comes out of that one engine, so they always agree with each other. Nothing is replayed from a recorded day — each session is generated, which is why you can't learn a name by memorising it.
Prints per second, at 1x → at 2x. The tape runs at half this rate at 1x, so a candle holds the same trading at either speed. The speed is information in its own right — the same pattern means far more when the tape behind it is accelerating.
Candles form in real time
A 1-minute candle takes about 5 seconds at 1x in Full Sim and Practice, or 2.5 at 2x. Fast-forward switches between 1x and 2x and everything scales together — tape, book and chart. Hardcore candles take 15 seconds at 1x.
The colour mix is the read
Green prints hit the ask, red hit the bid, grey traded between the spread. In a base the mix is roughly balanced; on a real trigger it runs around 85% green — the tape tells you before the candle does.
Levels are real orders
Resistance is a seller sitting on the offer, support is a buyer on the bid, and either has to be exhausted before price trades through. They form at the running high and low of day and at whole and half dollars on any symbol, so there's often something meaningful overhead or underneath.
Levels hold, until they don't
Under moderate selling a support level holds about three quarters of the time; under heavy selling, about a third. Price regularly pokes a few ticks through and gets leaned on, which is what leaves a wick instead of a dead flat top.
Show all twelve mechanicsShow fewer
Broken levels flip
Cleared resistance leaves buyers defending it from underneath; broken support leaves sellers above it. The flipped level holds for a while, then fades as price moves away from it.
The break releases everything
When a level gives way, the queue behind it comes out: the tape speeds up sharply and the breakout bar carries several times the volume of a normal one.
Icebergs reload
On a level break you watch the block deplete — 213, 188, 128, 69, then it breaks. A true iceberg reloads its displayed size instead of stepping away, and that reload is the tell. If it holds through the level, the setup is forced to fail.
Fake-outs and shakeouts
About a third of failed level breaks poke above to pull buyers in, then snap back on a long upper wick. About a third of working breaks flush under first and run the stops — and nearly all of those go on to new highs.
Sweeps
One order occasionally clears several levels at once, so price gaps 10 to 30 cents with nothing in between to buy at. About 1% of bars, the large majority on confirmed triggers, news spikes and blow-offs. They run both ways and flatten anything in the path. Full Sim only.
The spread moves too
Around 2 cents while a stock is basing, blowing out to 8 to 11 on a trigger, spike or blow-off. When it snaps back tight, that's often the last thing that happens before a level goes.
Rejection bars
Every symbol gets a hidden cleanliness rating for the session. On a messy one, price pushes hard and gets sold straight back — never on a clean name, up to around 7% of bars on a bad one.
Where moves stop
Support where the stock loaded and two more roughly 12% and 22% below, so a fade chops sideways instead of sliding. Past about 80% above the open, pushing higher gets progressively harder.
Setups and odds
Seventeen setups, and most of a session isn't worth trading
Fifteen you can trade and two traps. Each runs through hidden phases — base, impulse, flag, trigger, resolve — with a hidden A/B/C quality grade shifting how likely it is to follow through; base continuation odds run between 52% and 70%. The traps, parabolic exhaustion and a VWAP breakdown, always resolve against you — recognising them and staying out is the skill.
| Type | Setups |
|---|---|
| Continuation | Flag, pullback, ABCD, inverse head and shoulders, cup and handle, VWAP reclaim, dip buy at VWAP, dip to the 9 EMA |
| Level breaks | Flat top, high of day, previous high, whole dollar, half dollar, descending resistance |
| Special | News spike — buying the first candle is the mistake; the pullback is the entry |
| Traps | Parabolic exhaustion, VWAP breakdown |
The median session, measured from where the stock loads
Every symbol has a day
Real day-traded stocks mostly run early, then bleed the move away as the crowd leaves — so most symbols here are faders, some chop, and a minority genuinely run. More than half finish in the bottom half of their range.
Front side against back side
Breakouts follow through about 60% of the time on the front side and only about 25% on the back side. That gap is the whole reason Skip exists — and Skip tells you whether passing was right.
Setups that never finish
A setup is chosen and then has to build itself out of real order flow, so it can break down before it completes — often enough that you'll meet it regularly. The review says so instead of handing you a pattern name that wasn't on the chart.
Your label, your call
Every closed trade's label is a dropdown. If you read the chart differently, change it — the critique rewrites itself, and the app shifts a little toward how you read a chart. If nothing had formed, it says "Unsure" rather than guess.

Trade a session, one minute at a time
One-minute candles with VWAP, high of day, the 9 EMA and volume against its own average. Your stops draw on the chart with the share count on each, and every fill is marked at the exact price inside the candle — cyan where you bought, amber where you sold.
- Start or stop the tape, run it at 1x or 2x, reset, or skip the stock and find out whether passing was right
- Scroll to zoom, drag to look back, tap any candle for its open, high, low, close and volume
- Drag the grip to resize the chart, stretch the price axis with the height slider, or go full screen for more history
- Right-click the chart to copy or save it, or copy the whole session
A scaled stop on each leg · inset: fills marked at the exact price
Level 2 and time & sales
The book, with size that matters
Bids and offers from the venues you'd actually see — NSDQ, NYSE, ARCA, BATS, EDGX, EDGA, MEMX, IEX, MIAX, PHLX, CBSX, BYX, AMEX and 24X — with size at every level in lots and your share count set right on the ladder.
- Green hit the ask, red hit the bid, grey traded between the spread with sub-penny pricing
- A large resting bid under price is highlighted — buying above real size is a defined-risk entry, and the review credits it
- The ETB or HTB tag says whether the stock is easy or hard to borrow. It matters even if you never short: hard-to-borrow names can squeeze
- Drag the handles under either panel to show more rows or fewer
Hotkeys Elite · advanced hotkeys
Order and stop keys that mirror a DAS setup
Bind a sized buy that attaches its own stop, then let it ratchet: to break-even once you're up 15 cents, then up to lock profit once you're up 25 — or turn the automatic moves off and press them yourself. A double-stop key scales you out in two slices at a near and a far stop. Every number is yours to edit, and stops fire off the last traded price, the way a real platform does.
Keymaps import and export, so you can mirror your real layout key for key. To add to a position, buy again with the key you opened with — there's no separate add key to press, though one still exists if you prefer it. Outside Hardcore you can size in up to three times, each add graded separately; in Hardcore the limit is your buying power.
Bind Sell a % of the position to scale out in slices: each press takes that share off what's still open — at the bid on a long, at the ask on a short — and a press that rounds up to everything left closes the trade. It needs Shares mode. Trade in percent or in shares with its own dollar account.
Settings
Set it up the way you trade

- Position sizing in percent or shares
Tape Only In Lite · unlimited
Reaction drill, measured in milliseconds
Everything disappears except the prints. The tape sits quiet, then lights up and rips the offer — you hit the key the instant it does. It tracks last, average and best reaction time, and counts early presses and misses separately, so guessing doesn't pay.
Account Lite · core stats Elite · full analytics
The numbers that tell you if it's working
Total profit and loss, win rate beside your profit-to-loss ratio — because win rate alone says nothing about whether you make money — and the stat most traders avoid: how long you hold winners against how long you hold losers. Screen time counts real hours with a Full Sim stock actually running.
The DTSM tab turns your record into a shareable card — net P&L, trades, win rate, profit-to-loss ratio, average score, best trade, best streak and your equity curve — for Full Sim or Hardcore, ready to copy into the community or download.
How a trade gets scoredHide the scoring breakdown
| Part | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Pattern | 30% | Was the setup actually confirmed when you bought |
| Outcome | 28% | Realised profit or loss |
| Volume | 14% | Entry bar volume against the trailing five-bar average |
| Reaction | 14% | Milliseconds from the real trigger — under 400ms scores 100 |
| Sizing | 14% | Where the position stood each time you added |
If the pattern read scores under 40, volume and reaction are capped — being fast into a blow-off shouldn't earn execution credit. The most common verdict is "no clear signal", because most entries aren't wrong, they just have nothing behind them.
Twenty achievements, four tiers each Elite
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond — Diamond is deliberately a long haul. They cover time on the tape, quality of read, execution, judgement and range, plus three for the Learn tab. Only Full Sim counts, and they ride along when you export your account.
Short selling Elite
The short side, borrow and all
Switch it on and SELL opens a short, SELL again adds, BUY covers — sides, not actions, the same as a real platform. The short side gets its own keys, and everything mirrors, including a stop that sits above you.
Hard-to-borrow names need a locate first. The panel under the Level 2 shows the live price per share, what you hold and what you've spent; the fee is charged on acceptance whether you use it or not, and it climbs as the stock runs.
The engine's own numbers: shorting a stock at the start, before it's run, wins about 22% of the time. Shorting a pop that's already failing wins about 64%.
One account, and it can end
A separate $1,000 account that only trading can change. One stock at a time with no skip and no reset — start it, trade it, end it, next. Candles take 15 seconds at 1x (7.5 at 2x) — three times the trading in each, in smaller prints — and a stock runs roughly 35 to 70 minutes at 1x. The whole app turns red so you always know which account you're on.
- Commission of $0.00085 a share ($0.08 minimum) plus about $0.003 routing, both ways
- Locates on hard-to-borrow shorts, and borrow charged while you hold
- Real margin, and forced buy-ins at whatever the book offers
- An orange warning at 60% down from your peak; it ends under $100 or 80% down
Coming soon Ranked — one month, one account: everyone starts the month with the same $1,000, trades it under Hardcore rules, and profit decides the leaderboard. It can't be played yet, and the leaderboard on the DTSM tab currently shows example traders, not real members. When it launches it will share only your Ranked results and display name.
Twelve achievements of its own — they reset with the account
Leverage (Elite): what margin actually does to youHide leverage
The app's own example, a $1,000 account buying a $4 stock:
| Leverage | Shares | What it takes to end the trade |
|---|---|---|
| Off | 250 | You own what you paid for — a long can't be margin-called |
| 2x | 500 | A fall of about a third brings a margin call |
| 4x | 950 | A fall of about 1.6% — roughly six cents — and you're bought in |
Outside Hardcore, leverage only raises what you can buy. Inside it, margin calls are enforced — which makes it the quickest way to end a Hardcore account.

Launch L2TS LitePractice
The same engine, with the difficulty taken out
There's always a setup building, so you drill the pattern itself instead of waiting for one. Learn the shapes in Practice; learn to survive them in Full Sim.
More reps, no traps
A trigger roughly every 17 bars instead of every 32. No parabolic exhaustion, no VWAP breakdowns, no news spikes, no sweeps.
Setups that work
Follow-through about 93% of the time rather than 60%, with steady, shallow steps — after three green candles it leans hard toward a pullback.
Two crutches Full Sim takes away
A running buy percentage on the tape and book, and the spread in cents in the Level 2 header — both visible in the screenshot above. The setup itself isn't named until the review.
Go Back
Botched the entry? Rewind three bars and take it again. It's a true replay — the same price action, book and tape — and the reaction clock restarts so it's still fair.
Candles and patterns
A reference you'll actually read
Every candle drawn the way it shows up in context, tagged bullish, bearish or neutral, and explained in plain language: big green, big red, doji, hammer, shooting star, inverted hammer, hanging man, spinning top, engulfing both ways, and tweezer bottom and top.
The pattern library does the same for ten setups — bull flag, pullback, flat top breakout, ABCD, cup and handle, head and shoulders both ways, VWAP reclaim, topping tail and double top — plus four cards on reading the book: a seller wall, a buyer floor, and how to tell whether a block is actually being eaten.
Quiz
Name it before the label shows
Ten questions a round — candles, patterns, or both mixed. The shape comes up first and you name it, which is closer to what a chart asks of you than reading a definition. Notice the trap in this one: a hammer and a hanging man are the same shape. What came before it decides which it is.
Chart drill
Draw the levels, then find out
A fresh chart every time. Mark support, resistance and your buy zone, then check your marks: L2TS names the shape, grades each line, and says why. It doesn't round up — in this one the support and resistance were right, but the buy was marked mid-range instead of where price clears resistance and holds.
Tap the chart to hide your marks and see only the answer.
Level 2 lab
Six live lessons on reading the book
The book shows what's waiting; the tape shows what actually traded. Each lesson builds a live book with one thing happening in it — you read it, then answer.
- Reading the book
Bids below, asks above, size in lots — the basics, exactly. - A seller (wall)
Size stacked on the offer, and what it does to price. - A buyer (floor)
The same thing underneath, and why a stock stops falling. - Absorption: is it being eaten?
Whether a block is shrinking fast or you're early. - Size that is not real
A block can appear, scare people and vanish without a share filling. Real size leaves prints behind. - Tape beats book
The book is intention, the tape is fact. When they disagree, believe the tape.
Shorting
The part of shorting that doesn't mirror
There's no ceiling
A long can only lose what you put in. A short loses as the stock rises, with no limit — short 200 shares at $4 and a run to $14 costs $2,000 on an $800 position.
The squeeze
Covering means buying. When a crowded short starts losing, everyone covers at once and their buying pushes it higher. Low floats are exactly the names that do this.
You may not choose your exit
Fall below what the account must keep and you're bought in at whatever the book offers — which is how a short account goes past zero.
Where the trade is
Sell a pop that's failing, not a stock that hasn't moved: about 64% against 22% in the engine.
Stock selection · new
In the real market, choosing is most of the job
Every stock the simulator deals you is treated as if it has already passed the filters below, which is why you never choose in L2TS. This page is about the real market, where the wrong stock beats a good entry every time. It lays out the standard small-cap momentum framework:
- Relative volume of 5x or more
Volume against the stock's own average. Below about 5x it's just having a normal day. - Already up 10% or more
Buy what is already moving, not what you hope will. - A catalyst
A headline that explains the move — a reason brings in new traders, and they bring the volume. - Priced between $1 and $20
Where retail money concentrates. - A low float
The supply side. Few shares available means demand has nowhere to go but price.
Then it goes deeper. Float — the shares actually available to trade — is the supply side, and it's why two stocks with identical news behave completely differently:
| Float | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Under 5M | Extremely thin. Violent both ways, wide spreads, the biggest moves and the worst fills |
| 5M – 20M | The classic day-trading range — enough liquidity to get out, little enough supply to run |
| 20M – 100M | Needs far heavier volume to move the same percentage |
| Over 100M | Takes institutional-scale flow to move |
It also covers why a float can grow overnight through an offering, how catalysts rank, and what regulators have found about tiny overseas IPOs, and it ends with a pre-trade checklist. None of it is a guarantee — criteria only tilt the odds.
Support & resistance · new
A level is a price where orders are waiting
Price stops at a level for one reason: someone large enough to absorb everything coming at them is sitting there. The skill is telling the ones that will hold from the ones about to break.
Where levels come from
Whole and half dollars, the day's own highs and lows, prices that already turned, and role reversal — a break that comes back and holds the old level is one of the best entries there is.
Levels that move
VWAP, the 9 EMA, the 20 EMA and the daily 200 — and the rule that covers all of them: a moving average only matters on a stock that's actually trending.
Reading it on the book
A big seller, a big buyer, and size that keeps refreshing as it gets hit — the iceberg — and what each one tells you about the break.
In the engine
All of this is how L2TS builds its levels too: real resting orders you can watch count down, not lines drawn on a chart.
Psychology · new
The gap between knowing and doing
Almost nobody fails because they couldn't understand a flat top. They fail because they knew what to do and did something else — sized up after a win, moved a stop, took the trade they'd promised to skip. The page starts with five things to accept before anything else works:
- Anything can happen
No pattern, however clean, removes that. - You don't need to know what happens next
You need to execute something with a positive expectancy, over and over. - Wins and losses arrive in no fixed order
Five losers in a row is normal for a 60% strategy. - An edge is only a tilt in the odds
It doesn't owe you this trade. - Every moment is unique
Two identical-looking charts can be nothing alike.
Then why your brain fights you. Loss aversion is the big one:
Roughly twice as strong. That asymmetry alone explains cutting winners early and holding losers.
From there: why the most expensive state is the one right after a big win, and the biases that quietly lie to you at the screen. The ideas come from the books credited on the About page.
About L2TS
L2TS started as a personal training tool, built by a DTSM member. Screen time is the only thing that makes a Level 2 read fast, but the market gives you one open a day and charges you tuition while you learn it.
So the app puts that open on a loop. Simulated low-float momentum names run in the browser with a live chart, a full book, a moving tape and actions wired to a working position. Sessions are generated rather than replayed, so you can run the same kind of open as many times as you want without learning it by heart — and nothing you do costs anything.
Free Lite, and a DTSM exclusive
L2TS is built for Drive The Stock Market. L2TS Lite is the free edition, open to everyone: the whole Learn library, unlimited Practice, the Tape Only drill and three Full Sim stocks every 24 hours.
The full L2TS — unlimited Full Sim, short selling, leverage, the one-life Hardcore account, the advanced hotkeys and the full Account — is a DTSM Elite exclusive. Compare Lite and Elite · Join DTSM Elite.
Your data
Your trades, stats and hotkeys are calculated and kept in your own browser. There's no account to create, and no trading account, position or order data is ever sent anywhere. The one thing you hand over is your name for the access agreement, which you submit yourself through a Google Form. Use Export account on the Account tab to move your stats and hotkey layout between devices or builds. Your Hardcore account isn't part of the export.
Builds and updates
Each build of the full L2TS runs for three months from the day it was made, so everyone stays on a current version. When one ends, download the latest from the DTSM community and bring your record across with Export account, then Import account in the new build. L2TS Lite builds are shorter: seven days from the first time you open one.
Where the knowledge came from
The simulator is original work — the order-flow engine, the book and tape model, the grading and the drills were all built from scratch. The trading knowledge inside it is not. Most of what it teaches came from these people, and a summary in an app is a pointer, not a substitute.
Every one of them is worth reading in full, and all are available as audiobooks.
Ownership
- L2TS is independently built and owned by its developer.
- Access, to Lite and to the full app, is limited and revocable, for your own practice.

Getting started
- Launch it.
It opens in a new tab and runs in your browser. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for. - Accept the access agreement.
The first time only. You confirm you're 18 or older and type your name, which you submit yourself through a Google Form, and it's remembered on that browser afterwards. - Start in Learn.
The app opens there and suggests an order: the references first, then the Level 2 lab and the chart drill, then Practice, then your three daily Full Sim stocks. - Keep an eye on the clock.
A countdown sits beside the LITE badge, with reminders at 3 days, 1 day and 1 hour.
Full Sim, with the stock counter beside the title. A stock only counts when you take your first trade on it.
Questions
Should I launch it here or download it?
Launch it here — it's the simplest way in, and it opens on the current build. Download a copy only if you want to run it offline. A downloaded copy is the same app with its own separate storage, including its own 7-day clock. If you ever switch between the two, use Export account in one and Import account in the other to bring your stats and hotkeys across.
Why does Lite expire?
Each Lite build is valid for 7 days from the first time you open it, and never past the end date it was published with. The countdown beside the LITE badge shows what's left. When it ends, the app locks and asks you to get the newest version from this website. Nothing is deleted. Before it expires, hit Export account (on the Account tab), then Import account in the new build to carry your stats and hotkeys across.
How does the three-stocks-a-day limit work?
Lite gives you three stocks in any rolling 24 hours. A stock is only used when you take your first trade on it — from then on you can trade it as many times as you like until you skip it or its session ends. Watching the tape and skipping a stock you haven't traded are always free, so a bad draw costs you nothing. Once all three are used, the next stock plays through once as a watch-only preview, and Full Sim stays locked until a stock frees up. Practice runs the same engine with no limit.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. L2TS has a phone layout with on-screen buttons — it's the Mobile device switch in Settings.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No trading data is. Your trades, stats and hotkeys are calculated and kept in your own browser, and there's no account to create. The one thing you hand over is your name for the access agreement, which you submit yourself through a Google Form. Like most websites, the app loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google can see your IP address, and the site that hosts it may keep standard server logs.
Is it a trading platform or financial advice?
No. It's a practice simulator — not a signal service, not a broker and not financial advice. Every symbol, print and quote is generated by the engine, and real money behaves differently: slippage, halts and your own nerves aren't fully modelled.

Try it
A stripped-back version of Full Sim, running live in the page. Price only ticks when the resting size at the inside gets taken, so the book has to empty before the chart moves — and when a seller is parked on a level, the block sits there and counts down until it clears.
Simulated market data for pattern and tape practice only — not real quotes, not investment advice.
You buy the ask and sell the bid, 100 shares a click. Keyboard: B to buy, S to sell. Speed is 1x or 2x, like the app: a candle every 5 seconds at 1x, 2.5 at 2x.
What to watch for
Before each break a seller parks on the offer and the row lights up in the book. Watch the size count down. Some reload their displayed size instead of stepping away — that's an iceberg, and it's the tell. Once the block clears, the tape rips and the level flips to support underneath.
What the demo leaves out
No scoring, no trade review, no hotkey binding, no adds, stops or shorts. No sweeps, no rejection bars and no day arc either — these always follow through. In Full Sim most names give back the bulk of their move, breakouts hold about 60% of the time on the front side and a quarter on the back, and two of the setups are traps.
Want the real engine? L2TS Lite is free — the whole Learn library, unlimited Practice and three Full Sim stocks a day, with the traps live and every trade graded.
